Stage: Rodeiro-Bendoiro
We cross A Ponte do Hospital over the River Arnego, where the place name reminds us of the historical presence of a pilgrim hospital. We will cross this river several times and then, beside the River Pontiñas, the Winter Camino converges with the Vía de la Plata.
Rodeiro- Penerbosa
From Rodeiro we continue by the C-533 in the direction of Lalín. We cross A Ponte do Hospital over the River Arnego, where the place name reminds us of the historical presence of a pilgrim hospital. We will cross the River Arnego several times up to Penerbosa.
Rodeiro - Penerbosa
Penerbosa- Ponte Pedroso
Puza and A Penela are the next towns. Lands of good quarry workers and excellent meat. We cross the medieval bridge of Pedroso.
Penerbosa - Ponte Pedroso
Ponte Pedroso- Palmaz
We then find the town of A Ponte, the ancient place for accommodation, for this reason it is also known as Mesón (Inn). Many of the ground floors of its houses still conserve the ledges or sills which served as counters for serving the travellers.
We pass through Val do Boi, Coto da Anta — now in the limit with the Municipality of Lalín— and we go up to the Coto da Mamuela — in reference to a field of funeral mounds —. On the right rises monte Farelo and behind us O Faro stands out. Among chestnut trees we find the stream called Rego do Barranco. We then arrive at the town of Palmaz.
Ponte Pedroso - Palmaz
Palmaz- Bendoiro
We cross the town of Palmaz and soon enter Lalín. The town is proud of its condition as the “the zero kilometre of Galicia”, the geographical centre of the land of Galicia, and each year the very famous Fair of the Cocido de Lalín is held.
We leave beside the River Pontiñas, among carballeiras (oak woods), parallel to the 525 National Road, and we continue until we reach A Laxe, a parish of Bendoiro where the Winter Camino converges with the Vía de la Plata (the Silver way).
