Piotr Roszak, Vice President
Piotr Roszak (Toruń, 1978) is a professor of theology at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, and an associate professor at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, where he obtained his Ph.D in 2009.
He is currently director of the Committee of the Way of St. James (since 2013) at the School of Theology at the Nicolaus Copernicus University; chairman of the "Council of the President of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship for the Development of Jacobean Routes" in the region; he is the found of the "Jacobean Parliament in Poland", a forum for the coordination of associations promoting the Way of St. James and the cult of the Apostle among Polish pilgrims;
He is a full member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome; editor of the journal "Scientia et Fides" devoted to the link between science and religion; and editor of the series "Scholastica Thoruniensia", dedicated to publishing Polish translations of medieval biblical commentaries.
He has held several international fellowships funded by the John Templeton Foundation, the Polish National Science Centre, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the Spanish Ministry of Science.
His research interests include topics on the relationship between science and religion, the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas, the history of the Hispano-Mozarabic rite, analytical theology, and the phenomenon of pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela.
He is a member of the Committee of Experts of the Way of St. James in Spain (part of the Xunta de Galicia).
He is the co-founder and a member of the Scientific Council of the "European Journal for the Study of Thomas Aquinas"; member of the editorial board of "Synderesis" (Spain), "Scrutari Fontes" (Italy); expert of European various funding agencies: Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ), Austrian Science Fund (FWF), Research Council of Lithuania (RCL), Slovenian Research Agency (SRA), and European grants.
He is an author of several papers and collective works, more than 140 articles in scientific journals; awarded on several occasions for achievements in scientific research work by international organisations.
He is one of the most cited researchers in the humanities field according to the Elsevier/Stanford University list (2% of the world's most cited researchers in 2021).
In 2021 he was awarded the Medal for Excellence in Christian Philosophy from the International Étienne Gilson Society.
HM King Felipe VI awarded him the Officer's Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic (2022), for his work on the Development of the Way of St. James in Poland.
