F. Javier García Turza
F. Javier García Turza is a Senior Lecturer of Medieval History at the University of La Rioja, where on two occasions he has been the Director of the Department of Human Sciences and Secretary General at the university (from 2016 to 2020).
From the beginning of his university career, his research activity has been oriented towards the study of the great monastic lordships, Hispanic documentary sources, and the Camino de Santiago. In short, his analysis focuses on the cultural sphere throughout the Middle Ages.
He is the author of more than seventy articles and several books related to these specialities, including those dedicated to the Riojan monasteries of Valvanera, San Prudencio de Monte Laturce and San Millán de la Cogolla, as well as to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. He has also researched the Camino de Santiago and the figure, both real and fictitious, of the Apostle.
Together with Claudio García Turza, he has devoted more than a decade to the study of the Hispanic glosses and glossaries of the Middle Ages, which has been fundamental for the understanding of early medieval culture and for the investigation into the origins of Spanish Romance. The research results were widely disseminated throughout the Hispanic world and led to the declaration of the monastery of San Millán as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
