Stage: Vilar de Barrio - Ourense (through Laza)
The route continues to Bobadela and Cima de Vila before entering Xunqueira de Ambía, an important spiritual centre in medieval times.
Vilar de Barrio- Padroso
The route continues to Vilar de Gomareite. From there it is called the Verea de Santiago. It is comfortable and wide. It combines stone surfacing with areas which are sometimes flooded in winter and spring. The route continues to Bobadela and Cima de Vila before entering Xunqueira de Ambía, an important spiritual centre in medieval times.
Vilar de Barrio - Padroso
Padroso- Xunqueira de Ambía
We reach the municipality of Xunqueira de Ambía. We pass through the parish of Sobradelo and cross the XVIII century Roman road or Vía Nova, which joined Bracara Augusta (Braga) and Asturica Augusta (Astorga). A surprise nowadays is that this conserves the Roman milestones, marking distances in Roman miles (1 mile=1,480 metres).
Padroso - Xunqueira de Ambía
Xunqueira de Ambía- Ourense
Afterwards we reach San Xillao, Vilanova, Os Casares and other towns. At this point, many pilgrims took a diversion to the Sanctuary of Santa Mariña de Augasantas. Then, there is Gaspar (Baños de Molgas), Paderne de Allariz and the municipalities of Taboadela and San Cibrao das Viñas, with its state of the art technological business park.
The city of Ourense awaits us with all its attractions: the Cathedral presides its historical-artistic complex; the city, capital of hydrotherapy, is also outstanding for its natural landscapes bathed by the River Miño and its rich gastronomy.
