Rande Bridge over the Ria of Vigo
The Portuguese Coastal Way
Etapa: Redondela-Pontevedra
San Simón and San Antón islands emerge from the Ria of Vigo, beneath whose waters lie the remains of the galleons of the Battle of Rande (1702).
Redondela- Arcade
After leaving Redondela, the route soon comes to As Angustias Chapel . We enter the parish of Cesantes. On the left, to the east, is the spectacular Ria of Vigo. The islands of San Simón and San Antón emerge from centre of the ria, beneath whose waters lie the remains of the galleons of the Battle of Rande (1702). And in the background, the panoramic view is completed by Rande Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge that rises above the mussel farmers’ rafts. The route enters the parish of O Viso and continues on to Arcade (municipality of Soutomaior), following Portas, Lavandeira, Cimadevila, Velero and Barroncas streets to historic medieval Sampaio Bridge over the Verdugo River.
Redondela - Arcade
Arcade- Bergunde
The municipality of Pontevedra begins at the bridge’s halfway point. The route runs through the town of Ponte Sampaio and continues along ancient, evocative stone paths, including sections of the Roman Via XIX, such as the climb up Brea Vella de A Canicouva.
Arcade - Bergunde
Bergunde- Pontevedra
The route approaches Pontevedra via A Boullosa, Santa Comba de Bértola, Santa Marta Chapel, Tomeza, Casal do Río and O Marco (in O Pobo we can take the branch that diverts us to the left -complementary way-). Otero Pedrayo Street and the Compostela roundabout lead to the Virxe Peregrina Shrine, Soportales Street, Teucro Square and Real Street. The incredible historic city centre awaits.
