Philippe-Picone
Philippe Picone, born in Marseille (France), PhD in musicology from the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Paris (EHESS) with the homoglation of the title of doctor from the University of Santiago de Compostela, and associate researcher at the C.N.R.S. (National Centre for Scientific Research, France/ French Institute of Andean Studies in Lima, Peru). He studied at the national conservatories of Versailles and Paris, where he won several first prizes (history of music, musical analysis, chamber music, organology).
A specialist in baroque music, he is assistant professor in the history and analysis of baroque music at the Department of Musicology of the Catholic University of Angers, and resident organist of the historic organ of the collegiate church of Notre-Dame de Vernon and the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Sceaux (France).
Fellow of the Société Française de Musicologie, the Sociedad Española de Musicología, the Société des Hispanistes Français de l'Enseignement Supérieur, and the Centro de Estudios Compostelanos in Paris.
He is the author of several musicological articles on themes related to Santiago de Compostela published in scientific journals, and has given several lectures on music as well as the cult of Santiago Apostle during the Baroque period. He was vice-president of the French Society of Friends of Santiago de Compostela and is a pilgrim and member of the Archicofradía Universal del Apóstol Santiago.
In 2022, he became a member of the International Committee of Experts of the Camino de Santiago.
