The credential is the pilgrim's passport which must be stamped on each stage. The Compostela is the document which certifies completion of the pilgrimage.
The new location for welcoming pilgrims to their goal in Santiago is located in Rúa Carretas, number 33, a few short metres from Praza do Obradoiro. It houses all pilgrim services, including the Pilgrim's Office, where the Compostela is obtained.
In 2015, the Xunta de Galicia, Government of Spain and the Galician provincial councils, created a Road Safety Commission for the Way of St. James. Its purpose is to improve and ensure the tranquillity of pilgrims on the nine routes leading to Compostela.

Contact information for every municipality in Galicia is provided by the Galician Federation of Municipalities and Provinces search engine. Civil Protection recommendations in case of emergency, storm, snow, fire, heatwave and other events.
