Connections with the French Way
The starting point in Galicia of the French Way is established in the village of O Cebreiro, at the limiting line between the provinces of León and Lugo (Town Hall of Pedrafita do Cebreiro), at about 152 kilometres from Santiago de Compostela. Another reference point to be dealt with is Sarria, recognised as “kilometre 100” which guarantees the issue of the Compostela once the pilgrimage is completed.
The station situated in Sarria provides service to several domestic long-distance railway connections (of Alvia, Trenhotel Galicia, Trenhotel Atlántico) with Ferrol and A Coruña as destinations, and intermediate stops in A Gudiña (CVP) Lugo and Ourense. This is an alternative for the mobility of the pilgrims, mainly those who arrive in Galicia via Madrid and Barcelona.
In any of the aforementioned cases, both as regards reaching Pedrafita do Cebreiro and Sarria, the cities of reference are Lugo and Santiago de Compostela, where there are regular bus services to both destinations.
