The Traditional Threshing of Doade (Lalín) is one of the major ethnographic events in inland Galicia. For the past 22 years, it has been organised annually by the Ethnographic Museum Casa do Patrón, taking place on the penultimate Saturday of August in Codeseda (Lalín).
It is the grand threshing festival of Central Galicia, featuring a historical re-enactment of the most significant communal labour in inland Galicia over the centuries, representing the culmination of the bread-making process. Around 70 participants from Codeseda, Doade, and other parishes in Lalín bring this event to life, attracting a large audience. The event begins with the transport of sheaves and the construction of the haystack, showcasing Galician craftsmanship. There is a comprehensive exhibition of threshers, engines and winnowers, as well as an art exhibition related to the bread-making process. Following this, historical threshing methods are re-enacted in chronological order: stone threshing, threshing with flails, manual threshing machines, engine-powered threshing and threshing with tractors. Experts in the field provide commentary throughout the process. Prizes are awarded to the best-dressed man and woman in period costumes, followed by an outdoor communal meal with spectacular views of the Asneiro Valley. In the afternoon, the Threshing Evening is organised, with performances by several folk groups from Deza.
