Santiago de Compostela, 7 December 2018.- Today, the Regional Ministry of Culture and Tourism has just taken another step in the planning for the next Holy Year by tendering the contract for the service of developing the Strategic Plan of the Xacobeo 2021. This is the tool on which this celebration will be built, which has been declared an event of exceptional interest and is an opportunity of empowerment for Galicia.
The Strategic Plan of the Xacobeo 2021, tendered for an amount in excess of 66,000 euros and with a project deadline of four months, will be based on both the lines approved by the Council of St. James, at the state level, and the Organising Committee of the Xacobeo 2021, at the regional level, at its meeting on November 28, when the go-ahead was also given to the draft decree regulating the use of the brand.
This roadmap aims for the Holy Year to be a universal and enduring commemoration, which achieves the greatest possible participation with sustainable development. Furthermore, it should contribute to the promotion and strengthening of the international dimension of the Caminos of Santiago and Galicia through a wide array of actions in different areas prior to the celebration and taking into account the future legacy that it will leave.
Decentralisation and accessibility
So, it will delve into the promotion and stimulation of some competitive tourism and cultural sectors, in terms of quality and accessibility. At the same time, it will search for territorial balance and will ensure that the Xacobeo 2021 is a participatory commemoration. In this sense, it will aim for decentralisation, expanding the impact of the Holy Year, especially in rural areas.
Innovation, volunteering, contemporary artistic creation, knowledge of the heritage, promotion of Galicia as a destination or cultural exchange will be present in this document, which will seek to involve society by generating a sense of pride in the local population. In addition, it will define a plan for obtaining sponsorships, as tax breaks are already activated for a period of three years.
The tender includes research and work with the Region’s strategic sectors, diagnosis, strategic approaches and, finally, the drafting of the Plan.
