Turismo de Galicia inaugurates the exhibition ‘El Camino de Santiago. Vívelo!’ on the Korean island of Jeju
Turismo de Galicia today inaugurates the exhibition “El Camino de Santiago. Vívelo!" on the South Korean island of, Jeju, within the celebration of the Jeju Olle Walking Festival 2016.
This hiking festival, which began in 2010, is held on the trails of the Island of Jeju, the most popular holiday destination for Koreans.
Those attending enjoy the cultural events. Each town along the route welcomes the participants with local meal and a wide variety of shows.
Through the S.A. de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo, Turismo de Galicia participates this year with an exhibition on the Camino de Santiago will bring the Jacobean culture to the large number of people attending the event.
Friendship Agreement
Th routes of Jeju are inspired in the experience of the Jacobean pilgrimage and serve many Koreans as training before joining the Camino de Santiago.
In this regard, Turismo de Galicia and the Jeju Olle Fundation are putting the final touches to a Friendship Agreement within the framework of the World Trails Network, whose executive committee meeting has just been held in Tottori, Japan, in the International Trails Conference.
Korean Pilgrims
In 2015, of the pilgrims who stamped their Compostelas , a total of 4,073 were from Korea, which was the ninth foreign country in the total of participants.
This year, the figure is increasing, so far in 2016 3,752 Korean pilgrims have arrived in Galicia, which supposes an increase of 8.55% as compared to the same period in 2015.
