The journal has a multilingual character—it accepts and publishes texts in the main official languages of the European Union—as well as a clear interdisciplinary and international vocation that allows it to address a broad spectrum of researchers of any nationality

The contents of Ad limina are grouped around two axes: Santiago and the civilisation of pilgrimages in general. The journal promotes the publication of studies that have traditionally been included in the majority of Jacobean scientific works, particularly research on history, art, iconography, literature, archaeology or liturgy, but it also tries to promote the presence of less frequented fields, such as anthropology, geography, medicine, legislation, landscaping or the environment, which in recent years have been added to this field of study. Through the dissemination and coverage of the various fields listed, the publication seeks to promote Jacobean research in as many areas as possible, with particular sensitivity to new lines of research.

Ad limina has a Board of Directors, made up of its Director and an Editorial Board made up of the members of the International Committee of Experts of the Camino de Santiago, as well as a Coordinator, appointed by the same Editorial Board, who acts as the scientific editor for each issue. It also has a large Scientific Council, made up of renowned specialists of different nationalities, as well as a large group of external scientific evaluators or "referee".

In addition to a rigorous control of the quality and unpublished nature of the works presented, there is also the observance of the standards set by the competent scientific bodies to ensure the rigour and merit of the scientific works: the publication of abstracts and lists of key words in English and the creation of a web portal for the journal.

In this way, Ad limina is committed to abide by and adopt international standards for the evaluation and indexing of scientific publications, in order to correspond to further quality control and to be present in the main impact indexes such as DOAJ and SCOPUS.

The ultimate objective of the journal is to guarantee the future of Jacobean research, a fundamental pillar of the revitalisation of the pilgrimages to Santiago that we are living.

In 2020, with the aim of broadening the thematic variety and scientific impact of Ad Limina, the Editorial Board launched a series of monographic issues and sections, supervised by a Guest Editor, chosen from among the various applications received. Moreover, since 2023, to ensure the maximum dissemination and accessibility of these monographs to the academic world, the magazine publishes a Call for Papers, which specifies the general theme of the next volume and invites scholars to submit an article.

Submitted works must be original and unpublished. The Editorial Board will appoint in each issue a coordinator from among its members, or a Guest Editor of recognised scientific value in the academic world, who will be in charge of submitting these originals to an external evaluation by the double-blind review system that will allow the Board to decide whether to proceed or not with their publication. The order of publication of accepted articles will be mostly determined by the order of delivery and positive evaluation of the texts. The first printing proofs will be sent to the authors for their correction and they will have to send them back to the journal respecting the deadlines previously established. Corrections to the second proofs will be made by the Coordinator in agreement with the Editorial Board.

Ad Limina does not charge authors for the sending or processing of their articles.

The accepted languages for the publication of works are German, Spanish, French, Galician, English, Italian and Portuguese, and articles should be sent to the following address: adlimina@xunta.gal

Articles should not exceed 50000 characters, including spaces, and can include ilustrations (maximum of 20) for graphic material (photographs, plans, maps...). All authors must provide a brief summary with a maximum length of 20 lines, as well as a series of key words related to its content; both texts will be accepted in the original language of the article and subsequently translated by the editor into Spanish, Galician and English.

All the works will be delivered in computer format, in Times New Roman font, body 12, one and a half spaced, both in the text and in the notes. All graphic material provided must be submitted in photographs, transparencies, slides or digital format (minimum 300 p.p. JPG/TIF).

Bibliographic references in the notes shall conform to the following standards: A) Books: surname, followed by the full or abbreviated name in lower case, the title of the work in italics, place and year of edition and the number of p/pp. B) Articles: surname, followed by full or abbreviated name in lower case, title in quotation marks, name of the journal in italics, volume, year and pp. The second rule will be applied to conference proceedings, miscellaneous, collective works, tributes, dictionaries and encyclopaedias.

For electronic documents, authors must comply with Standard ISO 690-2, obtaining the source information of the document itself, specifying the date of consultation and following the same guidelines described for bibliographic references.

The first printing proofs will be sent to the authors for correction, and they must send them back to the journal within the deadlines previously set. Corrections to the second proofs will be made by the Direction and the Editorial Board.

In case the texts are published, the authors will receive a copy of their work edited in PDF and 2 copies of the journal.

The copyrights of the images (photos, plans, drawings...) published must be processed and paid by the authors of the articles.

Ad limina is a scientific journal aimed at a broad spectrum of researchers of Santiago and the pilgrimage civilisation in general that is published annually since 2010. It is always presented during the month of July, the month in which the Feast of the Apostle Santiago and the Day of Galicia are celebrated; this presentation coincides with a plenary meeting of the International Committee of Experts of the Camino de Santiago (https://www.caminodesantiago.gal/es/conocimiento-e-investigacion/comite-internacional-de-expertos-del-camino).

Turismo de Galicia and S.A. de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo, as editors, will ensure the rigour and quality of the work presented under an ethical commitment to the academic community. Thus, the Code of Conduct has been taken as a reference, established for editors of scientific journals by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE):

- Turismo de Galicia and SA de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo are committed to promoting ethical conduct in the publication of Ad Limina. Research magazine on the Camino de Santiago and pilgrimages . Thus, they undertake to respect and protect the privacy, confidentiality and intellectual property of the authors.

- Ad limina has a selection system of articles that are reviewed "blindly" by external reviewers—anonymously and by peers—with criteria based exclusively on the scientific relevance of the article, originality, clarity and pertinence of the work presented (external evaluation by the double-blind review system). The journal guarantees at all times the confidentiality of the evaluation process, the anonymity of the evaluators and the authors.

-Plagiarism is strictly prohibited; in the event that a work is found to have been plagiarised, it will be removed from the journal if it has already been published or will not be published. Authors must ensure that the article and associated materials are original and do not infringe copyright. They must also guarantee that they have the permissions to reproduce the images, infographics, illustrations, etc., that they wish to include in their work. In any case, it is their ultimate responsibility to have the relevant authorisations for the use of these images. 

- Authors must guarantee the authorship of the documents they present, both texts and images. In the event that the submitted article contains significant contributions from one or more authors, they must appear as co-authors.

-In the event that the Editorial Board of Ad limina detects that a work contains inaccuracies, they will be corrected immediately; obviously the authors will be informed of any possible change or suggestion on the part of the Editorial Board. The authors will participate in the editing process and will supervise their article, once it is laid out, so that they may incorporate the changes they consider appropriate.

-The authors will be able to present all their complaints or claims to Ad limina through the e-mail adlimina@xunta.gal

Ad Limina is an open access magazine. Turismo de Galicia and S.A. de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo make all the numbers published of Ad Limina available to the public and free of charge through the website caminodesantiago.gal. In this way, users can download all the issues of the magazine without asking for prior permission.

Since 2019 Ad Limina is published under a license of use and distribution Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0)  . This license facilitates unrestricted access to the contents of the journal, allowing others to distribute, mix, adjust and build from the published work, even for commercial purposes, provided that the authorship of the original creation is acknowledged; that is, it is mandatory to cite its origin in any total or partial reproduction. The purpose of publishing under this license is to encourage the global exchange of knowledge about the Camino de Santiago and Pilgrimages, and thus achieve the widest possible dissemination.

The author of the article that is submitted for publication in Ad Limina authorises the journal to publish this, without any obligation (economic or other), both in paper format and digital format, as well as in any other medium. This assignment of use of the submitted material includes all the necessary rights for the publication of material in the journal. 

At the same time, the author’s moral and proprietary rights are guaranteed, and the author may establish separate additional agreements (commercial or not) for the non-exclusive distribution of the version of the work published in the journal (for example, place it in an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with express acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
