Description
This square Plaza is located at one end of the rectangular Magdalena district. The statue in honour of the first Marquis of Amboage that dominates the square was unveiled in 1896. It was created by sculptor Eugenio Duque and cast in Barcelona.
Ramón Pedro Francisco Pla i Monge, the Ferrol philanthropist better known as the Marquis of Amboage, was born on October 19, 1823 in Ferrol. Prior to his death, he donated funds to create the Amboage Foundation, which aimed to exempt young Ferrol men from military service. In return for the donation, the town hall decided to honour him with a statue and celebrations that take place every year.
