The Manager of the Xacobeo highlights the work of the Associations of Friends of the Way of Saint James at the VI Assembly of the Federation of Andalusia

The Manger of the Xacobeo, Rafael Sánchez, participated in the VI Assembly of the Andalusian Federation of the Associations of Friends of the Way of Saint James held in El Puerto de Santa María.

During the Assembly, he informed the members and guests of the mission and objectives entrusted to the Andalusian Federation.

The Manager of the Xacobeo took advantage of the occasion to thank the Andalusian Jacobean groups for the dynamism shown in the promotion of the Way of Saint James in this Autonomous Community.

In this regard, Rafael Sánchez stressed the work involved in signposting the pilgrimage itineraries, the work done to provide the routes with hostels in order to accommodate the pilgrims, the advice given to the pilgrims travelling the Jacobean Route through Andalusia and also those interested in other itineraries, together with the innumerable tasks of dissemination carried out which make the Andalusian Jacobean groups among the most dynamic as regards the Jacobean pilgrimage and culture.

In addition, he underlined the fact that Andalusia is the second Autonomous Community after Madrid which provides most pilgrims to the Way of Saint James.

Specifically, in 2015 a total of 22,877 Andalusian pilgrims stamped their Compostelas at the Pilgrim’s Office of Santiago, which supposes 8.71% of the total number of pilgrims.
