Turismo de Galicia was in Aragón to present its experience in managing the pilgrimage routes to Santiago, being carried out by the Galician autonomous community government through the Way of St. James Master Plan, the roadmap to support the route’s preservation and protection in our community.

This was part of an international conference on the Way of St. James organized by the Government of Aragón and the Jaca Town Council, in partnership with the Friends of the Way of St. James Association, featuring the participation of Xacobeo Manager Rafael Sánchez.

Addressing the many participants interested in the Camino, Rafael Sánchez discussed the importance of the Way of St. James Master Plan for Galicia in its effort to preserve and protect the routes, taking into account all of the Camino’s stakeholders, both public and private.

Element of cohesion in Galicia

Sánchez also mentioned the role of the pilgrimage route in our community, acting as an element of cohesion for Galicia and contributing to its social and economic development. He also discussed its value as a brand and collective identity, as well as the need to preserve the values that distinguish the Camino: spirituality, historical identity, cultural value and multicultural exchange.

This international conference was promoted by the Government of Aragón’s Department of Regional Structuring, Mobility and Housing, in partnership with the Jaca Town Council and the Friends of the Way of St. James Association.

It is part of the Government of Aragón’s policy to stimulate the promotion and revitalization of the Aragonese section of the French Route of the Way of St. James. The government is working on preparing guidelines to promote the Camino as a tool for the social and economic development of the district of Jacetania and Cinco Villas.
