Nava Castro stresses the role of scientific and informative publications in the preservation of the Camino de Santiago
- The Director of Turismo de Galicia attended the presentation of the book ‘Translating the relics of St. James', directed by Antón Pazos, Assistant Director of the Instituto de Estudios Gallegos Padre Sarmiento
- Publications such as this one help to position Galicia as a referent in research and will remain “in history in order to remind us that the Camino is a living eternal phenomenon”, she stated.
- She highlighted the choice made by Turismo de Galicia for scientific work, underlining, among other things, the creation of the Chair of the Camino de Santiago which seeks to encourage the study, teaching and dissemination of the knowledge of the Jacobean phenomenon.
The Director of Turismo de Galicia, Nava Castro, today attended the presentation of the book ‘Translating the relics of St. James', the fifth volume of the series directed by the Assistant Director of the Instituto de Estudios Gallegos Padre Sarmiento, Antón Pazos, and which addresses the transfer of the body of the Apostle Santiago from Jerusalem to Galicia, known as the traslatio.
The person responsible for Tourism of the Xunta referred to the new publication as “an instrument of the first level for the international dissemination of the Camino de Santiago and the Jacobean culture”. She also pointed out that it is framed in the outstanding “work” being done by the Instituto de Estudios Gallegos Padre Sarmiento in the area of pilgrimages, with publications fundamental for the preservation of the Jacobean Route which “will remain in history in order to remind us that the Camino is a living and eternal phenomenon”.
As she reminded us, this involves research concerns shared with Turismo de Galicia which, in its roadmap for the next Holy Year 2021 – the Strategic Plan of the Camino de Santiago – dedicated to a strategic line of research, communication and dissemination of the Camino and the Jacobean culture and establishes plans of action in order to encourage study.
Santiago as a referent in the research on pilgrimages
Nava Castro also referred to the Chair of the Camino de Santiago and the Pilgrimages – in collaboration with the Cathedral and the Universidad de Santiago – which will be a key component, which through courses, seminars, lectures and academic activities will promote the dissemination of the values associated to the pilgrimage.
It will also foster collaboration with university professors and departments and will favour the dissemination and the knowledge of research carried out through publications and other communication actions.
The Director of Turismo de Galicia was accompanied by the Director of the publication, Antón Pazos and the institutional delegate of the CSIC (Superior Council for Scientific Research) in Galicia and the Director of the Instituto de Estudios Gallegos Padre Sarmiento, Eduardo Pardo de Guevara y Valdés. Finally, she expressed her gratitude for the work of the Instituto de Estudios Gallegos Padre Sarmiento which, with endeavours such as this fifth volume of the series Compostela International Studies in Pilgrimage History and Culture, helps to position Santiago de Compostela and Galicia as a referent in the research of the pilgrimage phenomenon.
