Nava Castro highlights the signposting of the Camino Mozárabe which will enable it to be approved as an equestrian route

• The Director of Tourism of Galicia and the Territorial Secretariat of the Xunta in Ourense visited the Camino Mozárabe at its passage through the town of San Cristovo de Cea
• The person responsible for Tourism of the Xunta stressed that this initiative improves the already existing signposting for horse-riding on this Jacobean route, informing on the conflictive points for the movement of horses and the variants proposed in order to overcome these.
• The equestrian route proposed has a total length of 236.6 kilometres and crosses the provinces of Ourense, Pontevedra and A Coruña, from the town of A Mezquita to Santiago de Compostela

The Director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava Castro, together with the Territorial Secretariat of the Xunta in Ourense, Silvia Dorado, visited the Camino Mozárabe at its passage through the town of San Cristovo de Cea in order to verify the results of the signposting with a view to its approval by the Spanish Royal Horse-Riding Federation as an equestrian route.

During the visit, the person responsible for Tourism of the Xunta stressed that this initiative improves the already existing signposting for horse-riding on this Jacobean route, informing on the conflictive points for the movement of horses and the variants proposed in order to overcome these. He stated that, “The Camino Mozárabe will be the first route which will be approved as a horse-riding route in Galicia”.

Nava Castro pointed out that the work carried out for this involved an investment of more than €48,000, which consisted of weeding, pruning and clearing at determined points, the withdrawal of silvicultural debris, earth moving in order to condition the surface of the Camino and the placing of the signposting itself. In this regard, he explained that the signposting consisted of the placing of horizontal signposting, consisting of painted markings and the installation of vertical signposting components – direction and location posts, tracking posts and information panels -.

As highlighted by the Director of Tourism of Galicia, the equestrian route proposed has a total length of 236.6 kilometres which crosses the provinces of Ourense, Pontevedra and A Coruña, from the town of A Mezquita to Santiago de Compostela, dovetailing with the Vía de la Plata.

Nava Castro concluded by saying that this initiative complies with the work stipulated in the Strategic Master Plan of the Camino de Santiago. “It is undoubtedly a strong attraction for all those who love horses and the world of horse-riding who will have the opportunity to travel this *Camino Mozárabe of the Camino de Santiago with ease and safety”.
