Xacobeo manager takes part in a conference in Menorca presenting the Xunta’s experience around managing the Way of St. James
Xacobeo Manager Rafael Sánchez took part in the 2nd Camí de Cavalls Conference, held in Menorca with the aim of discussing issues related to the public restoration of this historic Balearic Islands route.
During his talk, the Xacobeo company manager described the experience of the Xunta de Galicia in its management of the Way of St. James, which it has undertaken since 1992. Sánchez presented the measures implemented with regard to signposting and maintenance of the pilgrimage route, as well as the public network of hostels, currently made up of a total of 70 establishments.
The manager also discussed the activities undertaken by the Galician government to promote Jacobean culture and relations with Friends of the Way of St. James associations, as well as aspects related to management of the Way of St. James as a European Cultural Route.
Way of St. James Master Plan
In addition, the manager highlighted the importance of the Xunta de Galicia’s approval of the Way of St. James Master Plan, which provides a roadmap establishing the guidelines for promoting conservation and protection of the route in Galicia.
On this subject, Sánchez indicated that the plan is funded with close to 60 million euros and contains a total of 82 actions for looking after the Way of St. James and strengthening it through sustainable methods.
