The Xunta visits the Philippines to present Galicia’s experience with promoting the Way of St. James

Galicia’s experience with promoting the Way of St. James is one of the examples relating to pilgrimage routes to be presented at the 8th Spain–Philippines Forum , taking place through 27 November in Davao City.

Organized by the Spanish state-owned institution Casa Asia, Turismo de Galicia is participating in this event as part of the section on ‘Culture, heritage, sustainable tourism and best practices: the case of pilgrimage routes’, which will focus heavily on the Way of St. James.

The tourism arm of the Xunta is taking part in this meeting in order to share Galicia’s experience in the area of promotion and management of the Way of St. James. This will provide a model for the Philippine government, which is interested in enhancing the tourism value of several local pilgrimage routes.

The visit also has another aim: to continue fostering the increase in Philippine pilgrims travelling to Galicia to do the Way of St. James. In this regard, it should be noted that so far this year, the total number of Philippine pilgrims who have obtained the Compostela is up 44.06% compared to the same period of the previous year.
