The mobile app for the Way of St. James, launched by the Government of Galicia, has already been downloaded over 7,300 times

The Way of St. James mobile app launched this past May by Turismo de Galicia and the Agency for the Technological Modernization of Galicia (Amtega) has been downloaded 7,344 times.

The application, created as part of the Smart Camiño project, is yet one more sign of the Government of Galicia’s commitment to bringing innovation, quality and competitiveness into the tourist industry.

Through this pioneering mobile app, whose goal is to accompany and guide pilgrims as they journey to Compostela, people can get information on all of the official routes of the Way of St. James as they enter Galicia: French Route, Fisterra-Muxía Route, Via de la Plata, Portuguese Route, English Route, Primitive Route, North Route, Route from the Arousa Sea and Ulla River, and the Winter Route.

Pilgrims can thus have the real-time information they need on the official routes of the various Ways of St. James, the Public Network of Hostels, their accommodations, hours, locations, phone numbers and photographs; information on cultural events and fairs, concerts, workshops, and so on, as well as detailed information on all kinds of tourist resources (description, location and pictures).

Pilgrims can also check the app for places to eat, stay and visit on each segment of the Way, and learn about the wide range of tourist facilities offered on the Way of St. James.

The app also provides weather information, courtesy of Meteogalicia, as well as contact information and addresses for health and emergency centers.

The digital platform also has an augmented reality service that, through your mobile phone’s camera, lets you see all the nearby landmarks.

In the “My diary” section, pilgrims can save the most important memories from their travels using notes and pictures, and then, using the “My experience” feature on the app, create their own e-book.

The app is available in Galician, Spanish and English, and most of its features can be used even in areas with no mobile phone coverage.
