The European Federation of the Way of Saint James holds its first meeting after the incorporation of three new members
The European Federation of the Way of Saint James held a meeting in the Lithuanian city of Vilnius. This was the first meeting after the incorporation of three new members: the province of Kujawy- Pomerania in Poland, Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber in Germany and the Association of the Way of Saint James of Lithuania.
Currently, this federation, which acts as the managing organism of the Jacobean Route as the first European Cultural Route of the Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, is made up of three new incorporations and by the Xunta de Galicia, the Communauté d'Agglomeration du Le-Puy-en-Velay in France, the province of Namur in Belgium, the towns of Assisi and Vilapouca de Aguiar in Italy and Portugal respectively.
With these new members one of the objectives fostered by the Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe is complied with. The Council of Europe had called for an extension especially in Eastern Europe, which is now a reality which shows the dynamism of the Way in all the countries of Europe and the interest it gives rise to.
This federation was created in 2011 in order to give a transnational dimension to the Jacobean Route and to work on the consolidation of the Way of Saint James as the First European Cultural Route.
Outstanding among the actions carried out by the Federation is the promotion of the Way of Saint James brand through the development of the website SaintJamesWay.eu,the carrying out of joint actions, cooperation with the International Committee of Experts of the Way of Saint James; cooperation with the universities of the different countries as well as with the Associations of Friends of the Way of Saint James; and the participation in the annual forum of the European Institute of Cultural Routes, among others.
During the meeting, which was participated in by the Manager of the S.A. de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo, Rafael Sánchez, among other points, the new website to be posted soon was presented. On this website each member can disseminate news n order to provide it with more dynamism, thus showing the broad activity carried out in relation to the Way in Europe.
In addition, an analysis was made of the possible candidatures to European projects such as Creative Europe and a study was made of the possibility of integrating new members from the east ad other zones of Europe.
