The exhibition 'In the Light of the Calixtinus. The Codex of Saint James' has already received over 5,000 visitors

The exhibition 'In the Light of the Calixtinus. The Codex of Saint James', organized by Turismo de Galicia in collaboration with the University of Santiago de Compostela, has already received more than 5,000 visitors. This show was put together to support the bid for inclusion of the Codex Calixtinus in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

Visitor number 5,000 to this exhibition, which opened on 14 September, received a copy of the Codex Calixtinus in recognition.

The promotional and educational exhibition will be on public display at the University of Santiago de Compostela until 3 November, after travelling to several other European and Spanish cities.

It features texts, photographs, a facsimile of the document and original pieces, as well as audiovisual recreations based on information from Book V of the codex, incorporating contemporary creativity into the project.

There are several original prints by artist Francisco Leiro, which form part of the first complete version of the Calixtinus in the Galician language. Additionally, the exhibition includes a series of current photographs of the Way of St. James by such artists as Luis Gabú, Santy López, Manuel Valcárcel, Margen Fotografía, Eutropio Rodríguez and Silvia Steinbach, which illustrate the modern-day relevance of the original texts from the Liber Sancti Iacobi.

It is thus a marriage of 12th-century thought and the experience of the pilgrimage to Compostela in the 21st century.

The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 to 8:30 p.m.
