Become an Eco-Pilgrim

The pilgrims are a vital part of the conservation of the camino itself. Not too long ago we did mention “Helping to make the Camino Greener”, today we would like to mention another campaign to better the respect towards how we treat the natural heritage of the Camino.

ADEGA (the association for the ecological protection in Galicia) has Publisher a “Best practices guide” on the environment and the Camino de Santiago. It includes a form were anyone can fill this out and report observations of environmental damages to the Camino as well as comments and suggestions for improvements.

Their intentions are to make the Camino sustainable.

This guide offers practical tips and environmental information that are useful. The guide itself is small and is adapted for walkers to carry it with them. The guide focuses on various aspects:

  1. Garbage
  2. The various plants and animals along the Camino
  3. The stones of the Camino
  4. The landscape
  5. The water
  6. The cultural heritage and architecture.

The focus of this guide is the eco-pilgrim, and it can be found it the local pilgrims associations in Galicia. It is written in Gallego, Español, Portuguese and English.

Your solidarity is important to maintain the natural and cultural heritage of the Camino.
