Thee ‘Á luz do Calixtino. O Códice de Santiago' (In the Light of the Calixtinus. The Code of Santiago) which can be visited since September 14 at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela had more than 1,240 visitors in the first week. It is organised by Turismo de Galicia in collaboration with the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, and is framed in the candidature of the Codex Calixtinus to be included in the UNESCO International Memory of the World Register.
After being seen in several European and Spanish cities, Turismo de Galicia brings this exhibition of an informative and educational nature to Santiago in order to reinforce this candidature. To do so, the exhibition has texts, photographs, the facsimile of the document and original pieces, as well as audio-visual recreations based on data from Book V of the Codex where contemporary creativity forms part of the project.
Likewise, besides several original prints by the artist Francisco Leiro, which form part of the first complete version of the Codex Calixtinus in Galician, the exhibition shows a number of present day photographs of the Way of Saint James, by artists such as Luis Gabú, Santy López, Manuel Valcárcel, Margen Fotografía, Eutropio Rodríguez and Silvia Steinbach, which illustrate the current validity of a series of original texts of the Liber Sancti *Iacobi.
Thus, it deals with a union between the thought of the XII century and the experience of the pilgrimage to Compostela in the XXI century. The exhibition will remain open to the public from Monday to Saturday until November 3 this year. The timetable is as follows: from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
