Stage: A Gudina - Verín
At A Gudiña, as we have seen, the Vía de la Plata has two itineraries: the Verea Sur which communicates with Laza-Vilar de Barrio-Ourense, or this one, denominated “Itinerary of Monterrei”, which takes us by Verín, Xinzo de Limia and Allariz until both converge in the city of Ourense.
A Gudiña- As Vendas da Barreira

This route goes first to the parish of San Mamede de Pentes. It continues towards O Mente and O Navallo, in the municipality of Riós and reaches the locality of As Vendas da Barreira. It is a Stage with contrasts in the landscapes: little valleys irrigated by the River Mente combine with desolate environments and grand panoramas. We always travel near the national highway N-525 and the A-52 dual carriageway (Autovía das Rías Baixas).
A Gudiña - As Vendas da Barreira
As Vendas da Barreira- Verín
A beautiful carballeira (oak grove) receives us on leaving As Vendas da Barreira. We are separating from the main roads and we pass through small hamlets such as Trasestrada and San Pedro de Trasverea. Between them lies the locality of Sarreaus, where the route receives the curious name of “Camiño da Misa” (Camino of the Mass).
Meadows bordered by soutos (chestnut woods) and carballeiras (oak groves) take us to Mirós. We go up to Fumaces, an ancient hamlet in the shelter of the mountain range, and we now approach Verín. The silhouette of the grand Castle of Monterrei appears in the landscape from time to time.
