Lugo- San Vicente do Burgo

  • Length 9.9 Km
  • Difficulty Low
  • Estimated Duration 2h 00min

This is a short stage, 14 km. We leave Lugo via Miñá or O Carme Gate, the oldest and most iconic in the city walls. We continue downward, following the path of a hidden Roman road, crossing the Miño River over a Roman bridge. We reach the neighbourhood of A Ponte. Here there are two options: either continue straight up (As Areeiras area), or turn right, parallel to the river and Club Fluvial sports centre, going past San Lázaro Chapel and the neighbourhood of the same name. The two alternatives meet up after 3 km.

It is well worth taking a detour to visit the enigmatic Santalla de Bóveda Temple, a late Roman (4th century) structure listed as a national monument in 1931. Roman Road XIX ran past the temple, linking Bracara Augusta (Braga) with Lucus Augusti (Lugo) via Iria Flavia (Padrón). Back on the Way of St. James, we come to Bacurín, with Romanesque-style San Miguel Church, and the village of O Francés (also known as Hospital).
