Existe una etapa alternativa a Ribadeo-Lourenzá que, procedente de Castropol y Vegadeo, rodea la zona baja del río Eo y entra en Galicia por Santiago da Ría de Abres (municipio de trabada), ya en la provincia de Lugo. Continúa por lo más profundo del valle pasando por lugares como As Lóngaras, O Porto de Malle e A Trapa, hasta enlazar con el camino viejo de Lourenzá y alcanzar la capilla de San Marcos da Cadeira, próxima a Vilanova de Lourenzá.

Desde aquí, camino de Mondoñedo, confluye con la etapa Vilanova de Lourenzá-Abadín.
